The Institute
Our Mission
The mission of the Thrive Wellness Institute is to facilitate ongoing, interdisciplinary, community-responsive trainings simultaneously for mental health and medical clinicians committed to providing well-rounded, holistic healthcare.
The Institute
Rooted in Community
In working for decades in the mental health community in various roles, it became apparent to both Jill and Kat that mental and physical health care providers and their training tends to exist in “silos”- and not the cute kind you may find on a farm in Waco, Tx. In fact, most psychology, therapy, social work, and medical graduate-level programs (and continuing education programs) offer little to no cross-training with one another. This gap in interprofessional understanding can result in less than ideal outcomes for clients, e.g., “Is that behavior related to anxiety, or could it be thyroid disease?” or “Is the modality of therapy I’m offering ineffective for this client, or is this outcome a sign I need to involve a psychiatrist?” Based on a large body of research, we know that a highly collaborative interdisciplinary team results in the best possible outcome for clients. The Thrive Wellness Institute’s mission is to offer ongoing interdisciplinary trainings that facilitate effective interdisciplinary team involvement.

Our Origin
Introducing -The Thrive Wellness Institute- led by Dr. Jill Packman, PhD, RPT-S executive director and co-founder, and Kat Geiger, LCSW, CEDS-S, PMH-C co-founder.
Dr. Jill. Packman and Kat Geiger met 10 years ago when Kat was trying to pawn off the worst job ever on Jill (don’t worry, it wasn’t Thrive!). Though neither one of them kept that job, from that moment, they knew they were destined to work together- but in a better place. Their careers kept crossing and running parallel to one another. Jill’s work at the university, teaching in the counseling program and eventual move to interprofessional education at the UNR school of medicine; and Kat’s work in leading interdisciplinary teams both in the realm of eating disorders and perinatal mental health led them both to Thrive Wellness Reno – where interdisciplinary teams are the key to increasing treatment efficacy. As they worked in this arena, they both identified the need for training that emphasizes this interdisciplinary approach. The Thrive Wellness Institute recognizes that each community’s mental health needs are unique, and by working and learning together with a team of specialized disciplines and listening to the learning interests of those doing the work, we improve mental health for all.
