Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) for Adults

Eating disorders such as anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, binge eating, and others are critical and potentially fatal illnesses that affect physical, psychological, and social well-being. With specialized clinical care, one can rebuild and resume beneficial eating behaviors to achieve long-term recovery.

The clinicians at Thrive Wellness Sacramento offer comprehensive and evidence-based treatment that enables you to receive expert care while remaining at home with minimal disruption to your daily obligations, including school or work.

Our IOP program meets afternoons and evenings Monday through Thursday each week. Clients participate in group therapy, nutrition education and counseling, individual therapy, and family therapy each week. Participants can anticipate weekly meal support and daily snack support during programming hours. Throughout treatment, individuals are encouraged to play an active role in building the road map for their own recovery alongside their treatment team to feel empowered for a successful transition to aftercare

Our IOP for adults over the age of 18 involves 12+ hours of treatment per week, including:

For those living outside of the Sacramento region, a virtual option to participate in our program is available. Please contact us to inquire.

Frequently Asked Questions

Our IOP+ is ideal for patients who require more comprehensive eating disorder treatment than provided by their existing medical provider and/or therapist, yet cannot commit to or qualify for a partial hospitalization program (PHP) that interferes with daily obligations like school and work.

Our IOP+ primarily takes place on weekday afternoons and evenings to allow individuals to receive the care they need with minimal disruption to everyday life. We have helped many individuals complete treatment while meeting their school or work obligations. Our treatment team is happy to accommodate patients’ schedules and can coordinate sessions later during the program or outside of regular programming hours if and when needed.

The first step is scheduling an assessment. During the assessment, the patient (and family, if desired) will meet with a clinician to discuss the eating disorder and any co-occurring conditions so an appropriate course of care can be curated. An individualized treatment plan will be recommended following the assessment, and our team will work with you to schedule a program start date and coordinate your care.

Everyone’s healing journey is unique. The duration of one’s treatment is dependent on their progress and preferences. All patients are provided individualized treatment plans and are encouraged to continue treatment until they’ve reached recovery. Often upon completing the program, patients continue their care through outpatient services for long-term recovery and optimal well-being.

We currently partner with and accept Anthem Blue Cross, Optum, and Magellan Health for our Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP). Before beginning any treatment or services with Thrive Sacramento, coverage will be verified, and an estimate of the cost will be provided.
