Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) for Adults with Eating Disorders

Eating disorders such as anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, binge eating, and others are critical and potentially fatal illnesses that affect physical, psychological, and social well-being. With specialized clinical care, one can rebuild and resume beneficial eating behaviors to achieve long-term recovery.

The clinicians at Thrive Wellness Waco offer comprehensive and evidence-based treatment that enables you to receive expert care while remaining at home with minimal disruption to your daily obligations, including school or work.

Our intensive outpatient program (IOP) program meets from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday of each week. Patients participate in both individual and group therapy, nutrition education and counseling, supported therapeutic meals, and more. Topics and themes of group therapy can include interpersonal relationships, mindful movement, and adaptive coping skills. Our unique treatment experience is designed to help individuals restore their relationships with food and live free from the burdens of an eating disorder.

Our IOP for adults over the age of 17 involves 15+ hours of treatment per week, including:
Following our program, we offer and encourage aftercare through outpatient therapy to further foster lasting recovery.

Our IOP is ideal for patients who require more comprehensive eating disorder treatment than provided by their existing medical provider and/or therapist, yet cannot commit to or qualify for a partial hospitalization program (PHP) that interferes with daily obligations like school and work.

Our IOP takes place from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday of each week.

We have helped many individuals complete treatment while meeting the obligations of their daily lives. Our treatment team is happy to accommodate patients’ schedules and can coordinate sessions later during the program or outside of regular programming hours if and when needed.

For the convenience of university students who are in our care, we offer financial assistance for transportation between the campus and our clinic.

The first step is scheduling an assessment. During the assessment, the patient (and family, if desired) will meet with our clinical team to discuss the eating disorder and any co-occurring conditions so an appropriate course of care can be curated. An individualized treatment plan will be recommended following the assessment and our team will work with you to schedule a program start date and coordinate your care.

Everyone’s healing journey is unique. The duration of one’s treatment is dependent on their progress and preferences. All patients are provided individualized treatment plans and are encouraged to continue treatment until they’ve reached recovery. Often upon completing the program, patients continue their care through outpatient services for long-term recovery and optimal well-being.

Thrive Wellness Waco is able to pursue options for potential clients and their families to use their insurance benefits despite our status as an out-of-network provider for IOP. As part of the intake process, our admissions team will walk you through what this entails and provide you with an estimate of potential out-of-pocket costs.
