Family Intensive Outpatient Program (FIOP) for Adolescents and Young Adults

Eating disorders are more common than many realize – especially among youth. Thirty million individuals in the United States alone suffer from eating disorders, and 95 percent are between the ages of 12 and 25. With the highest mortality risk of any other mental illness, early intervention and immersive treatment are critical and often life-saving. Thrive Sacramento is passionate about providing comprehensive care that promotes lifelong recovery from eating disorders for individuals and their families.

Our multidisciplinary eating disorder specialists work together to provide evidence-based treatment that enables your family to receive expert care with minimal disruption to your daily obligations, including school or work.

Our FIOP begins with a five-day family immersion experience which takes place Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM – 2:00 PM and occurs on a weekly basis. Two to four families may participate at once, and admission is open to local families and those outside the area seeking the best support for their loved one’s recovery. Following the five-day immersion, families will return to work and school and continue on the path to recovery through outpatient therapy that fits their family’s schedule. Clients are welcome and encouraged to continue outpatient therapy through Thrive Sacramento to ensure continuity in care.

Our FIOP for adolescents and young adults under the age of 18 involves 30+ hours of treatment over the course of five days, which includes:

Frequently Asked Questions

The first step is scheduling an assessment. During the assessment, the client and family will meet with a clinician to evaluate the eating disorder and any co-occurring conditions to curate the appropriate course of care. An individualized treatment plan will be recommended following the assessment. Next, our team will work with your family to schedule the initial five days of intensive treatment and coordinate ongoing care.

Each client and family participate in an intensive week of treatment which runs Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM – 2:00 PM. This program is offered on a weekly basis.

Clients and families should anticipate missing a week (five days) of school or work during the week of intensive treatment. After that, all services are scheduled around clients’ and families’ work and school schedules as much as possible.

Sacramento hosts an international airport which makes travel to our area easy and convenient. Our community outreach coordinator will gladly answer questions about nearby accommodations and is happy to assist families with securing lodging near the clinic.

Many insurance plans will pay for most of the cost of the program. Before beginning any treatment or services with Thrive Sacramento, coverage will be verified and an estimate of the cost will be provided.
