Lead Medical Assistant

DESCRIPTION & DUTIES:

The Lead Medical Assistant will report to the Director of Nursing or the Director of Primary Care, depending on location. This position is considered Full Time, nonexempt per the wage and hour law. This position is eligible for benefits, including NonExecutive PTO. The Lead serves as both a practicing Medical Assistant and a point of leadership for the team, ensuring smooth clinical operations, training support, and consistent adherence to Thrive Wellness standards.

Schedule: Monday to Friday

QUALIFICATIONS:

- Certificate from an accredited Medical Assisting Program required.
- Minimum 2–3 years of experience as a Medical Assistant required.
- Prior supervisory, lead, or mentorship experience is strongly preferred.
- Basic knowledge of Human Anatomy and Physiology.
- Ability to work with all ages and genders, individual and family.
- Proficient in spelling, grammar, multi-tasking.
- Strong computer skills (EMR).
- Demonstrates competency and sensitivity in the areas of multicultural, racial, religious/spiritual, gender, gender identity, gender expression, and sexual orientation.
- Demonstrated ability to train, mentor, and support staff.
- Strong organizational and leadership skills with the ability to delegate effectively.

Requirements:
- Must pass a federal background check at hire and every 3 years.

- Ability to provide coaching, guidance, and constructive feedback to team members.

Duties:
- Supports a Staff Physician by preparing patients for visits, documenting clinical encounters, and ensuring smooth coordination of care.
- Prepares patients for the health care visit by directing and/or accompanying them to the examining room; providing examination gowns and drapes; helping them to position themselves for the examination and/or treatment; arranging and stocking examining room instruments, supplies, and equipment.
- Verifies patient information by interviewing patients; reviewing and/or recording medical history; taking vital signs; confirming purpose of visit or treatment.
- Supports patient care delivery by helping health care providers during examinations; preparing laboratory specimens; performing basic laboratory tests on the premises; disposing of contaminated supplies; sterilizing medical instruments; administering medications on the premises; authorizing drug refills as directed; telephoning prescriptions to pharmacies; drawing blood; preparing patients for x-rays; taking electrocardiograms; removing sutures; changing dressings.
- Educates patients by providing medication and diet information and instructions; answering questions.
- Completes records by recording patient examination, treatment, and test results.
- Keeps supplies ready by inventorying stock; placing orders; verifying receipt.
- Keeps equipment operating by following operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns; maintaining supplies; performing preventive maintenance; calling for repairs.
- Maintains safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following, and enforcing standards and procedures; complying with legal regulations.
- Maintains patient confidence and protects operations by keeping patient care information confidential.
- Responsible for ensuring adequate stock levels of clinical supplies.
- Responsible for vaccine management, including ordering vaccines, monitoring usage and waste, ensuring proper storage of vaccines, and completing reportable documentation as required by city, state, or federal agencies.
- Maintains sample medication inventory, including coordinating with third-party representatives when needed.

Leadership & Oversight:
- Responsible for the training, development, and competency evaluation of the Medical Assistant staff of their respective department(s).
- Oversees the Medical Assistant staffing schedule, including approving time away, ensuring that the clinic is adequately staffed on a daily basis, and communicating staffing needs to Supervisor.
- Ensures that clinical processes and protocols are consistently followed in the clinic.
- Responsible for quality assurance for all nursing-related workflows and processes.
- Coordinates with other staff members to ensure provider schedule optimization and to identify and resolve workflow inefficiencies.
- Assists with investigating and resolving issues related to patient concerns.
- Performs regular chart audits, as assigned.
- Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local laws, as well as guidelines and specifications established by other regulatory bodies.

Pay: $23.00 - $28.00 per hour
